Happy 5777!
Currently, we are cantorial soloists at Agudas Achim in Livingston Manor, NY with Rabbi Fred Pomerantz. Ira is leading the Musical Mini Minyan at Congregation Beth El in South Orange NJ, Tot Shabbat at the East End Temple in NYC, and song leading at preschools at Union Temple in Brooklyn and the YWHA in Union NJ.  We had a wonderful time performing at the Yiddish Club in NJ and at our various engagements in temples along the East Coast.

We have been busy performing in the folk realm and were honored with a formal showcase at the last North Eastern Folk Alliance. We are also starting to write and record music for a new CD filled with transformational folk grooves to uplift and spotlight our common humanity.

Happy 5775!

Just returning from our wonderful High Holiday's service in CA at Peninsula Temple Sholom.  While we were in CA we collaborated with Sweet Can Productions for a five show run at the Dance Mission Theater in SF presenting My Friend Hafiz- a mystical circus of joy.   We are gathering video and materials to present the show in various places.
Now that we have returned, we are enjoying a new position as cantorial soloists for Agudas Achim in Livingston Manor, NY with beloved Rabbi Fred Pomerantz!

We are preparing to release our new album: Trust which will be available this January.  Ira is continuing to lead the Musical Mini Minyan at Congregation Beth El in South Orange, NJ on Saturday mornings and working with the Union Temple Preschool in Brooklyn Friday mornings and once a month he leads Tot Shabbat at the East End Temple in Manhattan.

We are looking forward to performing at several Hanukkah Celebrations in New York and New Jersey, check the calendar!

Happy 2013!
Happy Second New Year!  We hope if you are not in some place warm that you are at least thinking warm thoughts.
We got the chance to fly down south to Florida for the first part of January and are tan, rested and ready to plunge into a fun filled season.  Ira is now performing a weekly musical mini minyan at temple Beth El in South Orange New Jersey and a monthly Friday night tot shabbat at the East End Temple in NYC.  Ira will be a part of Beth El's Purim celebration on Feb. 23rd.

The Levins are preparing to rerelease their cd: My Friend Hafiz with bonus tracks on March, 1st with an international radio campaign.  My Friend Hafiz is inspired by Hafiz of Shiraz, a 14th century Sufi mystic, who lived 100 years after Rumi, whose 'multi-dimensional' poetry not only prompts an internal  joy that promotes peace but, like the Beatles, reaches people of every faith, race and country with a universal message of love.  These twelve songs are inspired by this poetry as it was rendered by Daniel Ladinsky in his book, "The Gift."

The Levins will have their first cd release for My Friend Hafiz on National Poetry Day, March 21st at ZirZamin in NYC.  The show will be from 7-8pm.  Ira and Julia will be joined by Natalia Perlaza on percussion.

The Levins will are now booking shows to bring the music and stories of Hafiz, as well as mystic joy from the Judaic tradition into various communities.  Contact us to bring us to your community!

Well, Hello Spring!

It seems like we've spent the past few weeks thinking spring has arrived and even though the poor groundhog caught flack for predicting six more wks of winter...he was right, essentially.  Not that the buds and bulbs listened, but who could blame them? It was touch and "no", touch and "no" for a while, but I'm willing to declare Spring as of today.  And I've let Ira's tomatoes and basil know that its ok to move forward.

Meanwhile, we're really looking forward to celebrating in concert with Congregation Tehillah May 6th at the Ethical Cultural Society in Bronx, NY.   O
ur concert with the Jewish Day School of the Lehigh Valley, Allentown, PA has been postponed until June which just lengthens the anticipation of meeting the community.

Its a great way to start spring and flow into summer... Lots of music in between, as well. Check our Folk calendar and come visit if we are near you!  www.thelevinsmusic.com

 NEWS from THE LEVINS : 2012 - A New Happy Year...with much NEW-ness

We're looking forward to a great weekend back at the Hudson Valley Resort and Spa.  This time for LIMMUD NY 2012 !  It's not only an amazing opportunity to perform, but we"ll get a chance to learn from and see some of the best, most provacative and inspiring Jewish educators and artists in the area.  In addition to our main concert, we are presenting a family music concert ( special guest- the Sephardic Rubber Chicken of Freedom ), two special singing storytelling sessions, co-leading services and performing in the final gala event.  In between, we'll be attending all the sessions, as we learned last year at Limmud England, its all too good to miss!  Visit www.LimmudNY.org for more details or our booking page to find out more about bringing The Levins to your community.

The calendar is filling in as we prospect and submit and reach out and sing out...and we are grateful.  As many of you know, we also tour with our folk-pop-rock music and we've started meeting with potential producers and those in artist development as we move forward towards our next full length CD.  We've been taking the time to toy around with the new tunes, so that when everything lines up, our music is ready and so are we.  We're having a blast, continuing to write and we'll keep you posted!     Ira and Julia / The Levins
